A comprehensive commitment to sustainable activity
Firmly anchored and evolved values reflected in corporate philosophy, a sense of responsibility toward employees, society and the environment. This is Groz-Beckert's interpretation of economic, ecologic, and social sustainability – Groz-Beckert was committed to these areas long before Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) became a buzzword.
Groz-Beckert's own company health insurance, which harks back to 1888, the Groz-Beckert Foundation and the Health and Education Center (GEBIZ) with Kita and a private elementary school are only the most obvious examples.
Groz-Beckert is the world’s leading provider of industrial machine needles, precision parts, systems and services for the production and joining of textile fabrics.
The goal of our activity is to always be able to provide our customers and partners with optimal value. The same is true for our employees, society at large and our environment. Groz-Beckert's values – reputation, quality awareness, fairness and cooperation, innovation – guide our activity.
Our products and services, both internally and externally, should be customer-oriented and reliable. Competitive advantage is a basic principle and an important component of our corporate strategy.
For all divisions in the company we heed the principle that quality means accordance between agreement and execution.
Systematic compliance with this principle is supported by our integrated management system. It extends to the areas:
- Occupational safety
- Risk management
- Health promotion
- Environmental protection
- Security and protection of information
- Energy efficiency
Our management system constitutes the basis for standardized activity across the Group and the Continuous Improvement Process in the company.
With this policy statement and its corporate principles, corporate management and all employees of the Groz-Beckert Group are obligated to orient their behavior in accordance with the applicable provisions and regulations. Compliance is subject to consistent and group-wide self-monitoring and external audits.
At the Groz-Beckert Group, the acceptance of ecological, economical and societal responsibility goes together with profitable growth. For this reason we have committed to the concept of sustainability.
Well-trained and qualified employees are the basis of our long-term and enduring success. Prevention of risk at the workplace and promotion of health are of the highest priority for us.
Customers, suppliers and partners
Intensive dialog and mutual trust in the flow of information are the foundation for our cooperation with all external interests. The customer is the focus of our actions and our decision-making process. It is our task to make the appropriate services available to meet the needs of our customers.
Since we are aware of the sensitivity of our own information, we fully understand that the information of our customers, suppliers and partners must be protected in equal measure. We place high value on mutual trust.
Site safety and security
We are not just concerned with the security of our external partners at our sites, but also with protecting our Group from damage. We identify, assess and minimize the significant risks at our production sites around the world. For all relevant risk scenarios known to us there are action plans in place which help minimize the effects of a damage event.
Environmental protection and energy efficiency
Our challenges include protecting the environment and climate in order to preserve them for current and coming generations. With us, responsible treatment of resources begins during the planning of our processes, products and services.
Social and legal responsibility
We consider compliance with legal standards a minimum requirement. Our in-house standards apply at all sites worldwide and take precedence on site over legal provisions, insofar as they exceed their requirements. We are dedicated to social and ethical activity and steer clear of any type of corruption, discrimination and child labor.
Continuous Improvement Process (CIP)
Our activity is systematically planned in accordance with the Plan-Do-Check-Act control system, executed and monitored. We persistently follow up on our actions in order to constantly improve.
Behind Groz-Beckert there are firmly anchored values that have evolved and have been lived and shaped, around the world and on every day, since the company's founding in 1852.
We are honest, reliable and credible. This creates a climate of trust and security.
Our internal and external services are oriented to attaining the aims of their beneficiaries. We strive for leadership in the quality of our products and external services.
Fair and cooperative
We acknowledge the performance of our employees and promote them on the basis of a fundamental social philosophy. We shape internal and external collaboration with the goal of building and nurturing long-term relations which foster mutual benefit.
We are able and ready to take on new challenges and changes and incorporate them into our thinking and actions.

Education as the key to the future
Protecting natural resources and keeping a healthy environment intact – Groz-Beckert faces this challenges day after day. However, sustainability has for the company an even wider meaning.
For Groz-Beckert, education stands front and center as the foundation of a sustainable society.
Schools, Institutes of Technology and universities are supported and included in research work within the context of cooperations. Groz-Beckert also supports charitable arrangements and projects in the areas of science, research, art and culture. Much of the activity is promoted by the Groz-Beckert Foundation. Groz-Beckert's company health insurance is, of course, open to the family members of Groz-Beckert employees. The same is true for the Health and Education Center. A successful company requires a functioning society, and Groz-Beckert contributes its share.
The Groz-Beckert Foundation
Regional, targeted, sustainable. The Groz-Beckert Foundation has taken it upon itself to provide children and young people in the city of Albstadt and surroundings with targeted support.
Selected educational projects in particular are promoted. Based on these, the Groz-Beckert Foundation pushes positive developments at a social and civil level.
Our thematic funding lies in the areas of "Youth and education", "Science and research", and "Art and culture".
Environmental awareness has many facets at Groz-Beckert: company-wide, product-specific and of course with regard to the potentials of textile solutions and innovations.
Effective sustainability begins with day-to-day behavior. For years now, Groz-Beckert has been continuously lowering its emissions and energy consumption.
At all of the company's building projects, long-lasting and ecologically compatible building materials are used, as well as are regional materials, wherever possible.
The company encourages environmentally-aware behavior from every single employee and targets it with various programs and activities.
Even during development, Groz-Beckert places high value on the potential of its products to conserve resources and reduce emissions.
A prominent example is the Litespeed needle for circular knitting machines. As compared to standard needles, its optimized shaft geometry drastically reduces the energy consumed and thereby CO2, while at the same time boosting productivity.
In 2010 Groz-Beckert was awarded the Kyocera environmental prize and in 2011 the Korea EU Award for the first generation of Litespeed technology.
The product EcoStar in the area of Nonwovens has also proven sustainable. The universal felting needle for extreme requirements needs very little energy.
Products and packaging from Groz-Beckert are generally biocompatible, recyclable and environmentally neutral.
Textile innovations for the sake of the environment
Groz-Beckert is occupied with topics of the future brought on by the environment and customers. Resource efficiency and waste prevention can relieve process costs in the textile industry.
Technical textiles and their many fields of application are very promising.
Textiles are now used as fiber-reinforced plastics, called composites, and as textile cores in concrete. They replace conventional materials such as steel.
Their effectiveness includes significant weight reduction – and thereby also energy and CO2 reduction.
An example of successful material substitution stands in Albstadt-Lautlingen near the Groz-Beckert headquarters - the longest textile-reinforced concrete bridge in the world.
Strong together – Blue Competence
In 2011 the Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA) set up the sustainability initiative Blue Competence with the goal of promoting environmentally-friendly technologies and products.
This initiative spurred by the VDMA brings trade associations, institutions and companies together in an alliance to form a strong network for sustainable production and products. About 400 organizations are currently part of Blue Competence, and Groz-Beckert has been there since the beginning.
Along the lines of Groz-Beckert, the Blue Competence initiative takes all aspects of sustainability into account and considers sustainable activity the balance and integration of ecologic, economic and social goals.
The goal of the members of the initiative is to promote innovative technologies and products for the enduring protection of environment and resources.
The VDMA has defined authoritative criteria and standards to be met by all partners to the initiative. The Association and its members thus share the conviction that responsible treatment of natural resources and social responsibility are essential aspects of corporate activity and the basis for long-term success.
