The appropriate barb geometry for needle felts

Needle felts filter liquids, trap solids, and clean air of pollutants. For all these tasks to be fulfilled, the needling process has to be adapted to the later application. Precise matching of the barb geometry to the fiber is extremely important where the quality of the needling result is concerned. For example, thicker fibers require correspondingly deeper barbs. With Groz-Beckert felting needles, tolerances in the range of 1/1000 millimeter and absolute uniformity in production ensure highest accuracy of the barb dimensions – for every single needle. This process reliability and reproducibility result in a consistently high level of quality in filter production.

Choosing the right felting needles

In addition to the consistently high level of quality, proper selection of the felting needle plays a crucial role. Groz-Beckert has a broad range of needle types, which differ in barb size, barb shape, working part fineness and working-part cross-section, and can thus offer the ideal felting needle for the most diversely needled filter media.

If high surface quality is required, the combination of the felting needles GEBECON® and EcoStar is recommended. The stable GEBECON® needle ensures a good surface finish during the pre-needling phase, while the use of the EcoStar in intermediate and finish needling results in the best possible surface quality of the final product.

The twisted needle stands for efficiency. Due to their twisted working part, the barbs are more defined in operation. The result is more efficient intermediate and finish needling, which also enables higher production speeds.

This is just a small selection of the possibilities and benefits that the Groz-Beckert felting needle range can offer you. Would you like more information on felting needles and the process-reliable production of filter felts? The Groz-Beckert experts will be happy to advise you at Techtextil!
